Your Questions, Answered

  • Paint protection film — also called clear bra, clear wrap, or urethane film — is a transparent, durable thermoplastic urethane material applied to a vehicle's painted surfaces to protect against rock chips, road debris, bug acids, UV rays, bird droppings, and minor scratches. It acts as a physical barrier that absorbs damage so the vehicle's factory paint doesn't have to.

  • Vinyl wrap changes a vehicle's color or adds a finish but offers minimal physical protection. Ceramic coating adds gloss, hydrophobic properties, and light chemical resistance, but does not stop rock chips or road debris. PPF is the only product that provides genuine physical impact protection. Many customers combine PPF and ceramic coating for maximum protection and appearance.

  • Self-healing refers to the elastomeric polymer top coat on premium PPF. When the film sustains minor scratches or swirl marks, ambient heat from sunlight or warm water causes the top coat to return to its original smooth state — eliminating the scratch without any product or intervention.

  • On gloss clear film, yes — when professionally installed, PPF is virtually undetectable. High-quality film maintains the paint's gloss and depth, and precision-cut edges minimize any visible seam lines. Matte and color-change films are intentionally visible as they change the vehicle's finish.

  • Professional-grade PPF typically lasts 5–10+ years when properly maintained. TuckShield PPF products are backed by a 5-year manufacturer warranty covering cracking, yellowing, staining, bubbling, and delamination.

  • Yes — professional PPF is designed to be fully removable. When removed correctly by a trained installer, the film comes off cleanly without damaging the underlying paint. Attempting to remove film yourself or using improper techniques can cause damage.

  • Yes. TuckShield PPF offers a matte finish film specifically designed to protect factory matte or satin paint finishes without altering their appearance. Standard gloss film should not be applied to matte paint as it will alter the finish.
