Installation Guidance: The foundation of a perfect PPF install

A flawless PPF installation starts well before the film touches the car. Surface preparation, environmental conditions, film handling, and finishing techniques all determine the outcome. TuckShield PPF provides our authorized dealers with detailed installation guidance based on real-world experience on the full spectrum of vehicles — from daily drivers to exotic supercars.

Pre-Installation Checklist:

1. Vehicle Preparation

  • Perform a thorough wash and decontamination

  • Clay bar treatment to remove embedded surface contaminants

  • Inspect paint for swirls, scratches, chips, or surface defects

  • Perform paint correction as needed (strongly recommended before any film install)

  • Ensure vehicle surface is completely dry and free of residue

2. Shop Environment

  • Install in a climate-controlled, dust-free environment

  • Ideal temperature range: 60°F–80°F (15°C–27°C)

  • Adequate overhead lighting to spot bubbles, debris, and lift points

  • Keep air movement minimal during installation

3. Film Preparation

  • Allow film to acclimate to shop temperature before installation

  • Use lint-free gloves when handling film

  • Inspect rolls and pre-cut kits for any defects before cutting

  • Keep film protected from direct sunlight until ready to apply

4. Installation Best Practices

  • Use quality slip solution (do not substitute with household products)

  • Work panel by panel — do not rush large panels

  • Wrap all edges where possible for clean, long-lasting adhesion

  • Use heat gun carefully to conform film to complex curves and contours

  • Squeegee from center outward to eliminate moisture and air

5. Post-Installation

  • Allow full cure time before customer pickup (typically 24–48 hours minimum, longer in cold climates)

  • Inspect all edges and seams under bright lighting before delivery

  • Provide customer with care instructions at vehicle pickup

CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CUSTOMERS

Provide this care guide to your customers at vehicle pickup. It sets expectations, protects the film's warranty, and reduces unnecessary warranty claims.

TuckShield PPF — Paint Protection Film Care Instructions

Thank you for protecting your vehicle with TuckShield PPF. Follow these guidelines to maintain your film's performance and appearance over its lifetime.

First 7 Days After Installation:

  • Do not use a pressure washer near film edges during the first 30 days

  • Avoid parking in direct sun for extended periods during the initial cure

  • Some minor cloudiness or water pockets under the film are normal during curing and will clear

Washing:

  • Hand washing is recommended over automated car washes

  • If using a car wash, choose touchless only brushes can lift edges and cause scratches

  • Use a pH-neutral car wash soap

  • Do not use abrasive sponges, brushes, or scrubbing pads on the film surface

  • Wash at moderate water temperature avoid extremely hot water on film surfaces

What to Avoid:

  • High-pressure washing directly at film edges

  • Petroleum-based products, harsh solvents, or abrasive cleaners on or near the film

Approved Maintenance Products:

Self-Healing:

  • For stubborn minor scratches, use a heat gun on a low setting from a safe distance

Bird Droppings, Bug Splatter & Tree Sap:

  • Remove as soon as possible — these are acidic and can stain the film if left for extended periods

  • Soak with a damp cloth before wiping to avoid scratching

  • Use a PPF-safe detail spray if needed
